Milton Keynes Crown Tournament
The Crown Tournament is a standardised BattleTech Core Rules format developed by Mike Whitaker, host of the Tales from the Periphery podcast and a Catalyst Demo Agent. The format first ran in early 2026 and has become very popular, leading to a series of different regional tournaments culminating in the UK Crown Tournament at UK Games Expo.
A Crown format event is played over three rounds of 2.5 hours each, with a rest break in between. Players will build faction themed lists from the chosen era, and battle it out across objective-based games. The scoring in each round is weighted towards objectives, 60 points available for completing objectives and 40 points available for killing or crippling opposing mechs. Tournament rankings are based on the number of overall points scored across all three games.
This event will use the new BattleTech Core Rules and several optional rules which are outlined in the player pack. If you have any questions about this, please contact the event organisers. A range of reference cards and player aides will be available at each table to help speed up gameplay and address questions.

Scenario List
The range of possible scenarios can be found at the link on the right. Players should build their forces with every scenario in mind, part of the challenge of the Crown format is assembling a force which is flexible enough to do well regardless of which scenario comes up.
Players will be emailed the three scenarios to be used in the tournament on Wednesday 3rd February in order to give you time to plan and ask any questions you might have.
